In the Napoleonic era in Europe "education of the people" became an important issue on the national agenda, making Pestalozzi`s method a matter of practical relevance. Furthermore, the letters reveal the counterarguments faced by Pestalozzi`s admirers and how the first conflicts arose in his institute in the Castle of Yverdon.
