Schlagwörter: Online-Ressourcen: Zusammenfassung: Accessibility is an essential pre-condition for persons with disabilities to be able to avail of, and ‘consume’, goods and services. After the ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the European Union (EU) has placed accessibility at the forefront of its disability policies. Using its internal market competences, it has adopted the European Accessibility Act (EAA) which mandates accessibility requirements for a range of digital goods and services, such as computers, smartphones, TV sets, banking ATMs, e-books and e-readers, complementing accessibility provisions that are sparse in sectorial legislation. This chapter adopts a socio-legal approach that blends legal analysis with empirical methods to investigate the role of the EAA in protecting the rights of consumers with disabilities. On foot of a set of semi-structured interviews with key informants, it discusses strengths and drawbacks of the EAA as well as its initial effects from a disability perspectivePPN: PPN: 1983965537Package identifier: Produktsigel: ZDB-94-OAB
