First of all, labour means the activity of appropriation through which man makes the world his own property. It is also a fundamental right of man as a free subject and as a citizen of the State. Finally it is necessary for man’s self-development and education. In this sense, Fichte stresses the importance of multiplying labour’s productivity, in order to free a large amount of time to be dedicated to the intellectual and creative activities of man’s spirit.
