Subject(s): Online resources: Summary: The study examines the state control over images of public cultural heritage, unique in Europe for its strictness, which creates a form of “pseudo-copyright” limiting creative use, even for public domain works. The protection of decorum, not foreseen by the Codice dei beni culturali e del paesaggio(Cultural Heritage and Landscape Code), has often justified forms of prior censorship. The possibility of using open licenses, including for commercial purposes, fully compatible with current regulations, is presented.
