Dinámicas y tendencias de la ciencia ciudadana en América Latina y el Caribe: Un análisis bibliométrico y temático

Subject(s): Online resources: Summary: The study examines the scientific production in citizen science, participatory research and citizen participation in Latin America and the Caribbean through a bibliometric and thematic analysis of 514 articles extracted from Scopus. The methodology included four phases: data collection, bibliometric and thematic analysis, and conclusions. The R language, Bibliometrix package and VOSviewer were used for the bibliometric analysis. Python and the Pandas, Scikit-learn and Matplotlib libraries were used for the thematic analysis. A trend towards greater adoption of citizen science and citizen participation was revealed. A diversity of applications was observed, from biodiversity projects to public health and education initiatives, reflecting the richness and complexity of the social and environmental challenges facing the region. A panoramic view of how national and international collaboration influences global scientific production was presented, highlighting the promotion of community inclusion and collaboration as a strategy to advance scientific knowledge and address global challenges. One challenge that emerges is the integration of marginalized communities and data management; among the lessons learned is the transformative potential of citizen science to drive positive changeSummary: El estudio examina la producción científica en ciencia ciudadana, investigación participativa y participación ciudadana en América Latina y el Caribe a través de un análisis bibliométrico y temático de 514 artículos extraídos de Scopus. La metodología comprendió cuatro fases desde la recolección de la información, análisis bibliométricos, temáticos, y conclusiones. Se utilizó el lenguaje R, paquete Bibliometrix y VOSviewer para el análisis bibliometrico. Python y las librerías Pandas, Scikit-learn y Matplotlib en el análisis temático. Se reveló una tendencia hacia una mayor adopción de la ciencia y la participación ciudadanas. Se observó una diversidad de aplicaciones, desde proyectos de biodiversidad hasta iniciativas de salud pública y educación, reflejo de la riqueza y complejidad de los desafíos sociales y ambientales que enfrenta la región. Se planteó una visión panorámica de cómo la colaboración nacional e internacional influye en la producción científica global y destaca la promoción de la inclusión comunitaria y la colaboración como una estrategia para avanzar en el conocimiento científico y abordar los retos globales.
